Information for certain current and former CBA customers who have attempted to share their banking data under Australia's Consumer Data Right
The Consumer Data Right (CDR), also known as Open Banking, allows consumers to share certain data - based on the consent you provide - with organisations accredited by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and their authorised service providers.
When CBA implemented CDR for business accounts in November 2021, some account types were not enabled.
As a result, some customers may have been unable to share certain data with accredited recipients, and their providers. This means that if you tried to share your data for an impacted account with an accredited recipient, or their provider, it may not have worked.
Since CBA identified this issue and voluntarily disclosed it to the ACCC, CBA has been working with the ACCC in connection with its investigation of this matter. The ACCC has now concluded its investigation.
What is CBA doing?
We are sorry this happened. CBA will commence a remediation program for eligible customers from 19 January 2026.
What does this mean for you?
If you are a current or former CBA customer who was impacted by this, you may be eligible for a remediation payment if you were unable to share data via the CDR for an impacted account.
You do not need to take any steps at this stage. CBA will contact all customers who may be eligible with details about the remediation program.
Full details of the remediation program will be available on this page from 19 January 2026.

Under CDR legislation, any joint account holder can independently set up data sharing on a joint account without the pre-approval or authorisation of the other joint account holder(s). However, as a fellow joint account holder, you have the right to disable sharing in the Joint Account Sharing Preferences section of your data sharing dashboard.
For accounts that are enabled, any account holder can disable data sharing of the joint account at any time through the CommBank app or NetBank by going to the data sharing dashboard and then Sharing preferences and selecting Disable sharing. This will stop joint account holders from:
- Sharing the joint account in any active data shares
- Setting up a new data share from the joint account
To re-enable data sharing for a joint account, all account holders will need to approve the request.
Joint account holders can manage some notifications they receive about data sharing activity in the Notification settings section of your data sharing dashboard.
You may not be eligible to share data if:
- You’re under 18
- You’re not registered for internet banking (NetBank and/or CommBiz)
